Still basking in the euphoria of their kinsman’s US presidential election victory, Kenyans are not sitting pretty towards their determination to take the world by the storm, as they hope to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The East African nation is bent on halting Nigeria’s run in the qualifying series for the World Cup billed for South Africa.
Kenya’s football President, Mohammed Hatimy, boasted that his country would qualify for the World Cup ahead of their group opponents, like the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, Black Mambas of Mozambique and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

He particularly warned Nigeria to forget about going to the World Cup, stressing that they’re in the race for real.

Baring his mind on Brila FM, Hatimy said the Harambee Stars’ build-up would soon commence.

"The preparations have not started yet, because we are going to finish our league by the 22nd of this month. Our league is very tough," the KFF boss said.
He revealed that their national team had nine players who ply their trade in the local league. And insisted that they would not have problems in getting their players, who ply their trades abroad when the qualifiers got underway.

"We won’t have any problem in getting our players together," he said. "We can always get in touch with our professionals whenever we need them.

"We will just write to inform them and give them proper notice. That is all we need to do," Hatimy said.
When asked if his team could withstand the Super Eagles, the FA boss was very positive, hinting that his team should be able to beat Nigeria this time around.

"Why not? We played last five years ago and just last year, Nigeria pipped us 1–0 in a friendly. But I can bet you that this time around, it would be a different ballgame. Let’s just wait for the games to come and then we will see," he declared.

Despite all expectations and pressure, Hatimy said his job was not stressful, declaring: "My own job is just to chair the meetings, while the secretariat is the one running football, organising everything and running the programmes.

"With all of us doing our best and everyone taking care of his own assignment, Kenyan football is rising. We were 149 in the FIFA ranking before, but today, we are in the 79th position. We are all happy and I believe we will still improve.

"Since I took over (as the FA boss), we became champions in East and Central Africa. We are now looking at the chances of qualifying for the World Cup in South Africa," he stated.

Hatimy ended by declaring that his biggest dream has been to make sure the Harambee Stars qualify for the South Africa 2010, while also hinting that Kenyans would celebrate qualification for the mundial as they celebrated when their native, Barack Obama, won the U.S presidential election.

"We are going to celebrate (the World Cup ticket) just as we celebrated the other day when Obama won the presidential election in America. Here (in Kenya), it was a public holiday and I hope the government will give another public holiday when we pick the ticket.
"With Obama’s victory, I believe that you can always achieve what you want to achieve even when it appears impossible," Hatimy concluded. thanks for visiting the site

APGA, not factionalised – Chairman

pls contact me if you need more infomation
The National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, said in Lagos that the party was not factionalised as being speculated.

Umeh, who was in Lagos to canvass for support for the party in the upcoming Lagos council elections, told our correspondent that there was only one structure in APGA.

He said the party was more united and stronger than before.

On his absence from the Anambra State meeting on Government of National Unity (GNU), Umeh said he did not attend the meeting because the party was opposed to the idea.

“It was not because I was not invited but because APGA believes that the whole idea of GNU is ill-conceived,” he said.

On the upcoming council election in Lagos, the APGA Chairman, said the party would participate in the poll and urged the state Independent Electoral Commission (LABIEC) to ensure free and fair conduct.

“We are in Lagos to seek support for APGA’s candidates because we directed our executives in Lagos to make sure party does not boycott the election,” he said.

According to him, the October 11 election is an opportunity for Lagos state to justify its criticisms of INEC for the 2007 general elections by being fair to all parties.

“The state government must be seen not to interfere with this election. I know that the chairman of LABIEC, Justice Abdul Fatai Adeyinka (rtd) is a honorable man but we want to see him show it in this election,” he said.

PDP and ANPP had earlier announced their withdrawal from the election.
